The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd was born from the joy of the children in their encounter with God and lives in being nourished by this joy. It has also been observed that children of the same developmental stage [...] respond to certain elements of the Christian message in the same way.
Our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program is offered for ages 3-6. To accommodate the differing needs and availability of our families, this year we are offering two different sessions each week. Level I classes (3-6 years old, preschool and kindergarten) will be offered on Sundays from 9:15am to 10:45am or Tuesdays from 10:00am to 11:15am, late August through May.
Online registration is now open for the 2025-2026 school year! Registration fee is $140.
Please do not wait to register because of financial hardship. We will never refuse a family access to parish programs due to inability to pay. Please contact our pastor, Father Aidan McDermott, at [email protected] or 314.878.2120 ext. 120. All communication will be kept confidential.

An Atrium is an environment prepared especially for children containing the materials on the life and teachings of Jesus and the liturgy and sacraments of the Church. It is arranged specifically to aid in the development of the spiritual life. The adult catechist and the child enter into a shared experience through selected presentations of Scripture and liturgy, and the children are called forth deeper through their personal work.
Level 1
The current atrium at Saint Anselm is set for Level 1 children aged 3-6. The children begin each session with communal prayer and continue with individual work in a calm and silent atrium, allowing them to listen and talk with God. Presentations include the infancy narratives, Biblical geography, parables, liturgy, and practical life. Repetition and contemplation are encouraged.
