Rule of Benedict, Prologue
The monastery was established in 1955 on 150 acres of great beauty 15 miles to the west of the city of Saint Louis. At the invitation of the late Joseph Cardinal Ritter, Archbishop of Saint Louis, the abbot and community of Ampleforth Abbey, England, sent three monks to found the monastery and to establish a school. Religious of the Sacred Heart
The Religious of the Sacred Heart are the oldest congregation of women religious in the diocese. The only canonized saint of St. Louis brought them here in 1818, Saint Philippine Duchesne. Villa Duchesne/Oak Hill Academy, Maryville University and Academy of the Sacred Heart are staffed by or related to the Religious of the Sacred Heart.

Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver
The charism of the Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver is to stay behind the scene and make their work of spreading the Gospel more effective. Their goal is the salvation of souls. The Sisters offer their consecrated lives, daily prayers and various activities for missionaries. Blending their prayer life with countless activities on behalf of the missions, the Sisters are contemplative in action.

Monastery of the Visitation
This is a monastic community of women who combine their contemplative life of prayer with their apostolic work of education at Visitation Academy. They welcome retreatants, prayer groups and other persons seeking a place for spiritual direction and prayer. Call for information.
